Group Exercise 1:

Define the following:

Concept: The idea
Origination: Starting the creative process
Critical Discourse: Communication. Written or verbal constructive criticism.
Critical Thinking: SWAT
Creative Thinking: Outside logic, lateral, unorthodox, trying different things.

Individual Exercise 1:

Answer the following questions.

What is an exhibition?
A visual display of designs/artwork to the public demonstrating designers skills. Specific focus or theme.

What venues would be suitable?
Parking and public facilities available.
Weather – indoors, air-conditioning, security, lighting
Art galleries , museums, trade fairs.
Art Warehouse
CDU

What media could I use?
Sculpture, Photograph, Posters, paintings

Who are the stakeholders?
Businesses/customers that may be interested in purchasing your designs or employing your skills.
Students
Lecturers

What resources are needed?
Lighting
Hanging material
Sponsorship
Catering

How do I promote it?
Posters, newspaper ads, CDU website, Send fliers marketing/advertising businesses. Newsletters

What is the benefit of using different search engines?
Each search engines work differently and bring up different results, by using google only you limit yourself to those results.

What alternatives are there to search engine use?
Online insustry magazines and forums

What are some different ways to word your web searches?
all these words: Type the important words ie: tri-colour rat terrier
this exact word or phrase: Put exact words in quotes ie: "rat terrier"
any of these words: Type OR between all the words you want ie: miniature OR standard
none of these words: Put a minus sign just before words that you don't want ie: -rodent, -"Jack Russell"

How do I put on an exhibition from a students perspective?

  • Get work completed.
  • Decide on best exhibits.
  • Required materials. Space needed.
  • Deadlines met.
  • Keep with exhibition theme. Well represented.
  • Plan and organize thoroughly.
  • Know required space is available.
  • Include extra invitation list/s.
  • Marketing and promotion.
  • Make and keep a record/s of event work.

How do I put on an exhibition from a University perspective? 

  • Liaison with promotion department
  • Rules and regulations
  • Organisation - Ensure that all personnel involved with the exhibition –both internal and external –are clear on relevant developments as they occur and know their responsibilities.
  • Using the exhibition as a promotional tool.
  • Validate lectures and teachers.
  • Show outside industries the exhibitors are competent
  • Reputation.
